Berry Acai Bowl

Welcome back acai bowls.

Acai bowls were the biggest trend a few years back and flooded your feed every second of everyday, but today the trend is vanishing little by little. I’m not letting the trend vanish because acai bowls are simply delicious and a great alternative to ice cream, so here is a recipe to an acai smoothie bowl.

I am obsessed with this, especially in this LA heat because ice is amazing, but I do not want to add that much sugar into my diet. Yes, these bowls do have sugar too, but the sugar comes from fruit, which is good sugar for your body. The combination of the berries and the toppings is perfection because you get tangy and sweet from the fruit and the acai itself and texture from the granola.

I love how many variations of acai bowls exist. You can get green smoothie bowls, blue smoothie bowls and magenta smoothie bowls, practically any color of the rainbow.

Remaking this transported me to a few years ago when I would go hunting for the Instagram famous acai food trucks, I went to Venice beach and every other beach in Southern California in search for the famous smoothie bowls, I have paid $12 for a bowl that looked that a sample size at yogurt land, a little exaggerated, but the bowl was expensive for its size. These were so expensive because of the hype on social media.

Like everyone else, these were my obsession. I would want to eat one everyday in the summer because I was craving something sweet and cold that was not ice cream. After spending so much money on sample-sized acai bowls, I decided to make one myself for two reasons: one, it was cheaper and two, i wouldn’t have to be stuck in LA traffic driving to all these places far from where I lived.

Behold, here is an updated recipe to the acai bowl I made a few years ago.

Start to finish: 10 minutes

Servings: 1


1 Packet Acaí

Frozen Bananas ( Freeze 1-2 bananas the night before)

1/4 cup Almond Milk


1/2 cup Granola*

1/2 mango

3 strawberries

1 tablespoon Chia Seeds

Unsweetened Dried Coconut Flakes


Before taking the frozen bananas and acaí packet out of the freezer, prep your toppings because the acaí packet melts quickly, and you will be left with soup. Dice the mango, strawberries and measure 1/2 cup of granola, set aside.

In the blender, add the almond milk, frozen bananas, and one frozen acaí berry blend packet. Blend until smoothly blended. Make sure you do not over blend because the acai smoothie will not be thick and be watered down. The consistency should be thick.

Once blended pour into a bowl and add your toppings.

Serve with your choice of fruit, nuts and granola as your toppings.

*If you are using store bought granola, make sure you read the labels to ensure the granola does not contain corn syrup or high fructose corn syrup in its ingredients because you do not want any added sugar in your granola.

** All the portion sizes are based on a general serving size, but you may change all serving sizes to your specific portion size.
