Cheese-Filled Crust Loroco- Prosciutto Pizza
Hello everyone! Sunday I decided to make pizzas for my family, but I wanted to make it quick. I didn't have time to make the dough from scratch, let it rise for a couple hours and knead it in between (since I do not have a stand mixer, I have to make the dough the hard way), so I went to Trader Joes to buy pizza dough. Trader Joes is definitely my go-to place to buy pizza dough because it is cheap, delicious and cooks perfectly each time.
The way I came up with these pizza combination is simply by throwing things I had in my fridge and ingredients I bought while grocery shopping. The loroco flower-Prosciutto pizza is a mix of mixed cheese I grew up eating (usually found in Salvadorian dish, pupusas) and I thought the saltiness of the prosciutto would compliment well. For the pepperoni and olives, I asked my family what other toppings they would like, and they suggested those.
With that being said, here are the simple-easy recipes!
Loroco flower (fresh or frozen)
Monterey cheese (cut into about 10 cheese sticks and 4 shredded cups or more)
Preheat oven to 450 F
Shred the cheese and cut into thick sticks. The sticks will be used to stuff the crust.
Take the dough out of the bag. Make sure to let the dough is at room temperature because it will allow the rolling process to be easier. Let it sit out for 30 minutes, if it was in the fridge.
Meanwhile, place 3 cups of shredded cheese and loroco flower into a blender and blend until mixed well. If the loroco is frozen, let it thaw before using. I used a hand held electric blender, if you have one, use it. Set aside.
Once the dough is at room temperature, sprinkle flour onto the counter and roll out the dough into a circle or to the closest to a circle you can get it. If it is not perfect, it is OK. It is homemade pizza.
Begin to place the cheese sticks around the edge then fold dough over the cheese stick and roll until the entire rim of pizza is formed.
Now, assemble the pizza with all the ingredients. Brush olive oil over the edge because it will create a golden crust.
On a baking sheet or pizza stone grease with olive oil and sprinkle flour. Make sure you sprinkle All-purpose flour or corn meal onto your baking sheet because this trick will prevent the pizza from sticking to the baking sheet.
Bake for 10-15 minutes or until it is golden brown.
